It all started with three friends who required something that was hard to come by in 1993 – something strong and full of flavor – to keep them well fueled for long nights and hard work. These guys were in need of some real quality coffee, and in order to get it they decided to do it themselves. 

And so ALTERRA was born. Through hard work, dedication and a continual commitment to strive for the best, ALTERRA gives you great quality coffee with distinctive big flavor.

We believe roasting coffee is an art. Unlike many of the larger coffee roasters who believe technology can take the place of the human touch or that speed is more important than taste, we put our instinct and love of fine coffee into every bean we roast.

Roasting is our “special sauce” and we’ve spent years perfecting each coffee's optimum roast profile to achieve the perfect cup of coffee. Each Café Luca blend is roasted in our own roasting facility in Seattle, WA.

This southern California favorite was born when Carl Diedrich personally drove hand-selected batches of Arabica coffee from his farm in Antigua, Guatemala to Orange County, California in the back of his VW van. This gave Californians their first taste of true single origin coffee. Since that time, Diedrich has evolved from retail coffee-shop operator to one of the leading Keurig K-Cup producers in the United States.

Seattle hasn't always been the center of the coffee universe. The change occurred in the early 70's when a group of passionate coffee lovers started a revolution. The founders of Seattle’s Best Coffee were some of these early coffee pioneers, and in the beginning, the coffee was roasted in an old peanut roaster down on the Seattle waterfront. In 2003, Seattle’s Best Coffee was sold to Starbucks Coffee Company.
